Hat Patch Application Instructions
These instructions apply to all heat press-ready patches sold by Proof Engraving. The settings below are recommended starting points. A dual-platen hat press is highly preferred for the most consistent application.
Before pressing: Some decorators prefer to briefly pre-press the hat to warm it before positioning the patch. This can be used with either a dual-platen or single-platen press.
Dual-Platen Hat Press, Preferred
A dual-platen press heats the patch and hat from both sides, helping the heat-activated adhesive reach the proper temperature more evenly.
- Top platen: 280°F
- Bottom platen: 320°F
- Press time: 40 to 45 seconds
Single-Platen Hat Press
A single-platen press can be used when a dual-platen press is not available.
- Temperature: 300°F
- Press time: 50 to 60 seconds
Additional pressing time may be needed when using a single-platen press.
Important Application Notes
- Make sure the patch has even contact with the hat during pressing.
- Press settings can vary slightly because of press calibration, hat construction, and pressure.
- Use these settings as a starting point and test your process when possible.
- Check the entire edge of the patch for a secure bond before the hat is worn or sold.
